MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR

 

As your Mayor, I want to assure you that the city is prepared for the upcoming storm event. Please take all necessary precautions, listen to announcements from Emergency Management, stock up on hurricane supplies, drinking water, fuel, cash, and stay safe.

 

  • Throughout the event, if you need additional information or have special needs, please call the Lake County Emergency Operations Center Citizen Hotline at 352.253.9999. If you have a police, fire, or medical emergency, please call 911.
  • For continued Lake County Emergency Management updates, go to www.lakecountyfl.gov
  • For continued City of Tavares updates, go to www.TavaresFL.gov
  • Lake County has opened 15 shelters for those who need accommodations during the storm. The shelters opened Tuesday, October 08, at 12 p.m. The nearest shelter to Tavares is Tavares High School, located at 603 N. New Hampshire Ave opened at noon on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. Residents are encouraged to bring necessary supplies such as medication, bedding, and a pet carrier or crate. For more information, please call the Citizens Information Line at 352-253-9999. 
  • City facilities are closed on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. This includes City Hall, Tavares Public Library, Seaplane Base & Marina, and all other city offices. 
  • Garbage or recycling services have been suspended for Thursday and Friday.
  • Visit trusted social media sources Lake County Florida Emergency Management and US NWS Melbourne Florida

Please know that our Police and Fire Departments work closely with the Lake County Emergency Operations Center to keep our residents safe.
