1000 Books Before Kindergarten and 500 Books Before Middle School

How it works:

The Tavares Public Library literacy journey is a full circle. It starts with 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, grows with 500 Before Middle School, and blossoms into Teen Virtual Volunteering. From toddlers to teens, every step of the way nurtures a lifelong love of reading and empowers confident, engaged readers by the time they reach adulthood. Best of all? Kids and teens choose the books they want to read. Visit the Tavares Public Library today to get started.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a national early literacy initiative that encourages families to read 1,000 books with their children before they enter kindergarten. Families choose the books they want to read, and children earn rewards as they reach reading milestones. Each participant receives a Reading Folder with Reading Logs to track their progress. Visit the Tavares Public Library to get started.

500 Books Before Middle School

500 Books Before Middle School is a program created by the Tavares Public Library. Participants select their own books and read at their own pace. Reading can be tracked with either Beanstack, the Lake County Library System's reading app, or with paper logs available at the Tavares Public Library. Upon completion, children receive a Certificate of Achievement. If participating through Beanstack, Page 1/2 readers will obtain virtual badges as they progress in addition to the paper certificate upon completion. To get started, visit the Tavares Public Library.
